School Student Attendance Module Frequently Asked Questions

1) We already have a student administration system, why Academy Attendance?
Academy Attendance interfaces with existing school admin systems and time tabling solutions and offers a wider range of functions to track & report student attendance and improve efficiency. This allows us to customize solutions for schools to cater for full Subject Period by Period electronic roll marking from laptops, to providing permitted arrival and departure facilities for senior school students and many more.


2) Do we have to have the attendance package to have just the SMS Messaging module?
No, You can have the SMS Parent Alert Messaging Module as a standalone package. Some schools have only attendance or only the SMS TXT Messaging system in place. Although the more packages bundled together the greater the discounts.

3) What hardware is required?
Hardware is dependent on the type of installation. Our support and sales staff can discuss the hardware requirements when discussing your schools needs.

Online Student Management Portal / Electronic Roll Marking

1) What hardware is required
Teachers can access the web-based roll marking from their laptop, classroom PC, PDA, Smartphone, Apple iPhone or iTouch.

What are the benefits of online or PC-based roll marking?
Each teacher can log on via a browser or a link within your intranet directly from the classroom to process absence, late and uniform infringements. ALL data is available in REAL TIME, therefore you can accurately track student movements and dramatically reduce truancy.

SMS Parent Alert Messaging Module

1) How does the SMS alert system work?
The SMS Alert Systems offers a number of different features which includes to ability to send text messages to parents for Lateness, Absences and lesson truancy. The system also offers a broadcast facility which provides a quick and easy way to communicate with parents about up and coming events, important school announcements, urgent matters like class excursions returning late where phoning parents is near impossible.

More and more schools are ulitising the SMS service as a communication tool (eg cancellation of events, excursion running late, reminders etc).

The SMS Alert program can run as a stand alone package and does not rely on the Academy Attendance Management System to run.


2) Does the SMS system allow parents to reply via SMS?
Yes, the system can be configured as a one way service or two way enabled which allows parents to text back to the school. Schools can list their absentee phone number for the parents to make contact with the school.

3) Are sending the SMS messages expensive?
Sending messages via SMS is cheaper than mail, most landline calls and significantly reduces admin labour time. Please contact our sales team for pricing information.

4) Do we have to use Academy's preferred telecommunications carrier for sending the SMS messages?
No, Academy use Australian Based carriers but your may use your own if you have existing telecommunication agreements in place.

Biometrics Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can my fingerprint be given to anyone else?
NO. There are no fingerprint images stored. Only numerical representations of the unique points of the fingerprint are stored.

2) Can my fingerprint be taken from the computer software and used on another fingerprinting system?
No. Because of the way the template of unique points are stored, it is useless to a law enforcement application.

3) Can my fingerprint be copied or used by anyone else?
No. It is impossible to duplicate or falsify fingerprints from the information stored by the computer software.

4) Are finger-scan templates stored in a secure place?
All Fingerprint templates are stored on the schools secure admin server with all other personal information.
All biometric data is cleared when the student leaves the school.
